Welcome

This site is intended to serve as a repository for University policies. A University policy is defined as one with broad application throughout the University, that helps ensure coordinated compliance with applicable laws and regulations; promotes operational efficiencies; enhances the University's mission; or reduces institutional risk. Many important school, department or unit policies serve similar purposes but are unit-specific and are not included on this site (see School policies). Northwestern offices and units are encouraged to link to this site rather than creating their own pages with University policies. This will help ensure that everyone in the University is referencing the most current versions of University policies.

Revised Policy Announcement –  University Policy Development and Publication Policy

The Office for Audit and Advisory Services announces revisions to the University Policy Development and Publication Policy.

This policy has been updated to reflect changes in the University's policy development, review, and approval process. Changes include:
- defining an approver as a University Officer;
- requiring the policy owner to provide a statement of how the policy works with, conflicts with, or negates existing policy;
- defining the Policy Review Committee's (PRC) role in policy development;
- outlining the policy owner's responsibilities for updating policy; and
- the PRC's role in coordinating announcements and distribution of policies.

Please familiarize yourself with the updated policy at http://policies.northwestern.edu/UP_Development_and_Publication_Policy.pdf, and direct questions about these changes to your school or unit office, to the Office for Audit and Advisory Services (1-3304), or to the Policy Review Committee policy@northwestern.edu.
